Hurricane Sandy struck our tri-state area in October, just three days after our very successful 10-13 for C.O. Sue Gerner.  Many of our members, including executive board members Rob Abarno and Ed Margosian, were devastated by this storm.

We are proud to say that we had an excellent response to our F.O.C.O. update e-mail asking for volunteers to work on the houses of members who needed help.

F.O.C.O. volunteers successfully worked on gutting and cleaning debris from the houses of five members in the Amityville, Freeport and Long Beach communities.

Teddy Leoutsakos, one of the original executive board and founders of the Fraternal Order of Court Officers, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on June 4, 2012.  Teddy, who recently retired, served as an instructor at the Court Officer Academy for several years.  Teddy is one of our heroes who responded to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 and participated in the greatest rescue effort in American history.

Teddy’s wife Rose will be participating in the Memorial Sloan-Kettering “Cycle for Survival 2013” which will take place in March.  All funds raised will go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering research on rare cancers.  Please be generous, pledge your support for this worthy cause and show our brother Officer and his family that we care.

The FOCO Annual Holiday Party took place on December 9^th, 2012 at the Knight of Columbus Hall in Mineola.  The event was attended by more than 230 members and guests who were treated to music by D.J. Carl Morreale and a delicious banquet provided by Arditos’.

BELMONT RACETRACK 10-13 UPDATE

On June 29, 2012 over 250 New York State court employees and friends showed up to open their wallets and their hearts to help Peter Cannon, son of Sgt. Ralph Cannon (Queens Supreme).  Thanks to the hard work of event volunteers, braving the 96 degree heat, there were enough burgers, hot dogs and cold drinks to feed an army.  The goals of the event were to collect funds to help the Cannon family offset the medical costs of recent DNA testing as well as to collect swabs from potential bone marrow donors.  Volunteers gathered in 66 samples at Belmont that day, bringing the project’s total close to 1,100. Testing for a match takes about three weeks. Belmont racetrack personnel joined in the spirit of the event by adding to the many prizes that were raffled off.

FOCO ANNUAL SUMMER KICKOFF BBQ 2012

The annual FOCO Summer kickoff BBQ took place at Eisenhower Park on Friday, June 8, 2012.  The event was attended by about 90 members and guests.
